Dart News: Arafura Games 2009
Latest Darts NewsThe Darts Federation of Australia (DFA) is getting right behind the Arafura Games. The Northern Territory Darts Council (NTDC) started the darts flying by applying to the organising committee to have the sport of darts involved in the Games. After a rigorous selection process darts has been accepted. The Arafura Games is a leading international sporting competition for emerging champions of the Asia Pacific region. Held every two years in Darwin, the capital of Australia's Northern Territory, the Arafura Games is billed as a meeting of 'Sporting Neighbours' and attracts developing athletes from the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

The Arafura Games 2009 again promises exciting competition in 27 sports at international standard venues. Darwin's Marrara Sporting Complex boasts a collection of quality sporting venues in one area, hosting over 15 sports. All other Games venues are within 15 minutes travel time from Marrara creating a unique village feel to the whole Games.

Arafura Games 2009 will provide a pathway for the future champions of the Asia Pacific as we not only compete and create friendships, but also share and learn from our collective sporting knowledge.

Dart News: DPA support Royal Childrens hospital Appeal in Melbourne
Latest Darts News
The MSDA Royal Childrens Hospital Charity day was a total success stated Organiser and DPA player Tony Crampton "Well it never ceases to amaze me, how People rise to the challenge ,3 weeks before Easter and the normal darts tournament I go to has been cancelled. Some one said to me why don't we do something for the good Friday appeal...before you knew it we have the good Friday challenge.
The MSDA arranged 4 players to be challenged at $2.00 a shot the best of 3 x 501 or 301 double start double finish and for anybody who needed it we would give them the option of getting a start 100,200 or 300 head start this proved to be popular, there were fines for the 4 players for losing, for throwing 180s and in Tim Gatwards case for pegging "170" other games were also played there was a bull challenge ,a pro bull challenge and follow the score challenge.
It was a fun and entertaining way to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital. During the day players were challenging anyone to a game for a donation... Even DPA chairman, Kevin Berlyn was challenged to over 14 games and wiped the dust off his darts alas losing more games than he won, at a price of course........
I need to thank a number of people for making this possible, Kevin Berlyn the DPA Chairman not only for turning up and supporting with his time and money...but also for donating memorabilia...also I would like to thank Paul Nicholson,Tony Birtwistle,Tim Gatward for giving up there time and money to be challenged.

Dart News: The Wizard Marches into the Lakeside Semi's!
Latest Darts NewsMillennium champ Ted Hankey was the latest big name casualty, whitewashed by Wizard of Oz Simon Whitlock 5-0. It was spellbinding hour-long show from the 38-year-old Aussie who ruthlessly punished The Count’s lack-lustre performance.

For the second time this week seventh seed Hankey was upset by sections of the crowd, which seemed to affect his concentration, while his opponent remained passive and focused. For Whitlock - who averaged 31.57 - his eight-month-old son Locke is proving to be a lucky mascot this week.

Whitlock made the best start possible taking the opening set 3-0 and then sneaked the second 3-2, as Hankey struggled to settle. He then added the next 3-1 as Hankey seemed preoccupied with disruptive fans, the cool Aussie concentrating on his play, rather than what was happening in the crowd. The Aussie led 2-1 in the fourth but then missed double 16 for a 4-0 interval lead, Hankey producing a set-saving double 10. But it was shortlived, The Wizard conjuring up double 17 in the next leg for a commanding match lead. Boosted by a 12-darter and 180 he took the opening leg of the fifth set against the throw and then added the next after Hankey squandered chances for double 10 and double five.

Both players hit 180 in what was to be the final game of the match, The
Count missing his favourite double tops for a 160 match-saving checkout, Whitlock
swooping to bury him with double tops.
